Teds round London

A couple of weeks ago I was in London and I was asked by my Uncle to photograph his Teds round London event. I had so much fun again as I have been to one of these events before. The band The River Boys was really good and definetly got everyone up off there seats jiving including me!

I have never jived or even dance for that matter (well you can't really count burlesque) but it was so much fun and I am looking for classes to do with my partner George in Hereford even if it is only the once it is still a bit of fun. Anyways here is just a few of my favourite pictures from the event

Loved this bag I admired it a lot!

Dress Making

So much for me trying to blog more oftern.... oh well. Anyways I have decided to make a dress. The reason for this venture is because I am forever making skirts why not give it ago on my little John Lewis sewing Machine. I was going to use a free pattern at first from the internet but then decided against this and brought one.
Pattern V2961 from 1953
I was very much inspired by the hell bunny dresses so decided to go for this pattern in particular. Here is a picture of me in my lovely hell bunny dress!

The fabric on the background of the pattern is the fabric I am using very nautical and I feel quite rockerbilly and a little bit different. So far I have made the top of the dress which I must say was an absolute nightmare! (This is one of the reasons I have never attempted dresses or tops) but overall it has turned out all right even my button holes just need to add the buttons. The good thing about this dress is it can be worn as a halterneck or just tied at the front with a bow.

I have also nearly finished the skirt. Currently I am thinking of wearing it to my friends wedding which I'm photographing as well next weekend but if the sewing looks a bit dodgy then I will revert to the hell bunny dress. Just in case I am trying to look for a petticoat that will go with both dresses; I'm thinking baby pink at the moment what about everyone else? We will see how the dress goes and I will keep everyone posted.

Also I have been meaning to post this picture but a while back my parents brought for my birthday a vintage photoshoot experience with hair and makeup. Well I asked to have two outfits but sadly one of the outfit selection of photos have been lost so I will be going back in September. However here is one of the other outfit photos I had done. So here it is

What does everyone think? I very rarely wear pink as well but I just love the rollerblades plus it is different to my usual 50s swing dresses

Hay does Vintage

Right it is my  vow that I will try and blog more often. It might sound lazy but when I get home from work at 6 I just want to crash on the sofa but I am trying a new me. I am for one going to blog a bit more and I am also going to be trying to loose a bit of weight as well so lets see how this goes.

Photos courtesy of the Boyfriend

At the weekend I did an event called Hay does Vintage which I have been looking forward to for the last couple of months and have been trying to prepare and make my studio more on what it is suppose to be; a vintage style. I was placed in the perfect area with the studio which was the pamper area were vintage lovers could get there hair, makeup and nails done followed by a photo shoot at the end of it all! Here is my whole set up for the days events.

Even though it was really busy around the marquee not many people knew were the Pamper Areas location was within Hay so I must admit I didn't get much business but all the same it was just a great event to be apart of and I hope to be more apart of in the future.

Even though I said to myself I wouldn't buy anything as it had only just been pay day on the Friday I ended up buying a Picnic Basket that Lizzie May Vintage had kindly put aside for me to buy on the day. However this item had been planned a month in advance to buy anyway.

The lovely blue 6 persons picnic basket cost only £25! A few of the items need a bit of clean but otherwise I just fell in love with it! I can remove a lot of the stuff so it can have room for a picnic blanket so  that me and George can go on more picnics. But then all the extras a good if we ever want to go picnincing with friends it is something I hope for us both to do in the Summer. That is if the weather warms up soon.

I will be back blogging on Friday for The Octopode Factory's Friday Challenge and you are all going to love what I have made for the inspiration!

Long time no see

Wow its been some time since I've blogged and it is either because I have been busy or ill!

Well firstly I am a little bit behind but here is my Friday Challenge for the Octopode Factory on music.

I love the little Mermaid so much and throught this would be a good opportunity to use the mermaid digi by Lily. While making the card I had the film playing the background. As well as that last weekend I went to photograph a building for an architecture. Finally my first paid job in a field I want to do; photography. I'm not going to post a lot but here is a few.

The building was amazing and I was so lucky with the weather as I thought it would rain but the copper captured the sunlight beautifully. Yesterday I was off again doing another photoshoot for Lizzie May Vintage which have been such a great help to me since I've finished uni. While I think about it please go vote for them at the Vintage Awards the link is just below these images that I photographed for them. The photographs was a selection of Vintage clothes that they own in there store. There are some lovely outfits that have been put together.

To check out a few more photos from the shoot just check out my facebook page of website. Again the links will be at the bottom of the page. I promise I will try and blog more what with work and photography I am becoming a very busy girl.

See you guys soon!

Exciting News

Hey guys!

I have some exciting news as the title suggests and I have managed to get another one of my photographic images featured within a magazine this time one of my favorite magazines Vintage Life!

To remind everyone back in November I did a backstage photo shoot at a vintage fashion show for charity. Here is the post if no one remembers

Anyways the people that organized it, Lizzie May Vintage (which have been a big help to me), got in contact with the Vintage Life team about it and it got a small feature which is exciting and I am glad they chose one of my best pictures from that event along with even crediting me for the photo.

I did also get this work published in other local magazines such Herefordshire times and also the Hereford Journal but that was back in November time. I think I forgot to actually post it on my blog woops! "Bad Jasmin" *smacks hand*

At least it is a start to my photography career even if everything has been for free so far but hopefully something will come along soon

Tiring Week

Last week was such a tiring week! I have been busy doing quite a few things from tuesday-thursday I was looking after to my nan who had surgery while I was there I made 20 christmas cards for her craft fair as well. Apart from visiting London I have also been commisioned to make 10 christmas cards for my Aunt as well so have been trying to come up with ideas for them.

On Friday I got asked by Lizzie May Vintage to photograph a Fashion Show event for them frontstage and backstage and I am overall happy with the result apart from a few hiccups like batteries dying in my external flash gun even though I brought extras with me and then being under pressure front stage were I could just not get the settings right on my camera! Ahhhhh!

O well it is all over now and I had such an awesome time and can't wait for my opportunities like that. Hopefully the owners of Lizzie May Vintage and the owners will enjoy the photographs as well. Here is just a couple from the event as you may have noticed I like my black and white photographs.

Vintage Festival

As some people will know I had my first solo exhibition at Herefords first Vintage Festival in the center of town. Overall I was really happy with the stall we did do a quick switch around of the table due to it being quite far back otherwise I enjoyed myself.

Sorry about the view =( the bf took the picture as I was just changing my shoes

I had so much feedback about my photography work and lots of interests in people hiring me so fingers crossed people will get back to me via my photography website.

As well as the main idea being to exhibit my photographs, I tried out my idea for a pop-up vintage studio which sadly I was disappointed by as I thought more people would have been dressed in vintage clothing. I did have a few interests in which the photographs will be uploaded to my site very shortly but in the future to make my studio slightly more showy I will consider maybe having a clothing rack of clothes along with a few props such as mustaches etc.

Apart from the little draw back of the studio, I had a little section for all my upcycled fabric crafts, postcards and mirrors. Shockingly I was surprised that I sold more of the bunting then I did all the other little bits and bobs due to the fact that it was the most expensive item on my stall! Overall I made £42 which I was shocked by as I didn't believe I would sell anything due to most of the stalls having vintage items.

Overall I throughly enjoyed myself and hope to be part of another vintage festival or even a craft stall and hopefully my photography will make me more noticeable

Home Sweet Home

Well I have finally moved into the new flat and I am loving it! It is such a lovely decent sized flat. Here is a sneaky pic of some of the contents. Sorry it is a little messy still unpacking boxes. But once each room is sorted I will slowly add more and better pictures to my blog.

Card Curtsy of my mum

At the moment I am lacking in internet so I am currently sat in starbucks drinking coffees and eating some yummy cake!

Anyways since Friday a lot has happened not only have a moved into the flat but I also got my grad from doing my Top Up degree in Photography and I can reveal I got a 2.2. I was a little disappointed at first but then I realised that actually it is a really good grade and to say I only did that course for a year is a great thing to think about. I have also thought that you are not actually judge on your grade as a photographer or even an artist for that matter but you are actually judge on your portfolio. My parents are really proud of me as well and have offered to buy me a new bike as my current one is falling apart they have said I can spend up to £300 and I am already looking and have seen a lovely bike in the local bike shop so I can not wait.

Other good news is that at the cafe I am currently working in I have been offered a full time position from september there so meaning more money so I can pay my way in the flat which is always a good thing. Anyways I have been in starbucks for a hour already and I think I better go soon as there about to close up! Speak to you guys soon!!1

Vintage love

Today was a pretty good today full of a variety of things. Firstly yesterday I went to my usual favourite sandwich shop Number 10 and noticed some leaflets for a pop up vintage shop in the historic buttermarket in the centre of Hereford and I knew I just had to go. Now I didn't really expect to buy a vintage dress more fabric and ribbon but I came across this little cutie and just could not resist so tried it on.

Usually vintage items particularly handmade like this one never usually fits me but I was shocked and at £30 for a late 50s early 60s dress I knew I had to have it. The print is just lovely and I can't wait to wear it in the summer hopefully the weather picks up soon. Aswell as the dress I brought some ribbon and I had a little goodie bag given me. I also got asked to have my photograph taken as I looked quite vintage today even though my front victory roll was a mess and I lacked makeup. The image might be put in the local magazine so I will keep everyone informed on that.I hope to keep visiting this shop which is just outside of Hereford again and the people there were so friendly.

I have also today decided to do a little experimenting with my hair again and after a few video tutorials I have finally achieved a hairstyle that I love.

I need to perfect my main victory roll a little but for a first attempt I don't think I did too bad. The flower in the back of my hair was something I got sent from America as part of the birthday swap.

Other good news today is my website is officially live! I have a few tweaks I need to sort out on it but please go visit and I will be updating the page on my blog as well to redirect to my new website.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Hectic week

Sorry guys! For the past week I have been quite busy crafting away, photographing for my shoots and planning what to do next in my project so this update might be full of pictures and generally quite long but I might be able to shorten it. Currently my folksy shop has been closed as I had provided some items for my Nan along with some new items for her to sell at her fete her and her friends organized on sunday.

Apparently it went really well! The owl brooches were more popular however and I had them for some time just never put them in my shop. Just wondering what everyone else thinks? Shall I make some to sell in my shop online? I sold quite a bit of my items which she is sending back to me. I made £36 which for me being a student is really good and is money which I will be putting towards my final show exhibition.

Talking about the summer show I photographed at the local fire station for my recent project but this time with a different model and having a bit more of a pin up retro style.

Don't get me wrong the photographs look really good! However I have an issue that the photos aren't representing my whole 'Keep Calm and Carry On' and the link between the war and the recession. So I have decided to not use these within my final photographs but might use them in the future for something else.

Here is also a few sneaky peaks behind the scenes and shock horror I am wearing trousers!

Tomorrow me, my model, George and my friend Rob will be heading to Acton Scott Farm and Arley Railway station in which I hope to take some general shots on my diana or even with my polaroid. I have been dying to take more photographs on my polaroid. I promise I will have something blogged for tomorrow it might not be about the shoot but it will be from what has happened in the rest of the week
